Dear all, I will try to make a long story short, I am new to this group, and would appreciate all advices. I purchased three GSD puppies (8 to 9 weeks old) last August from a reputable breeder in Canada. Then shipped these dogs to where I am working at in Doha Qatar (Arabian Gulf), these three GSD are German show lines, pedigree certificate and CKC registered, two females (Waizy & Daizy)and a male (Butch).I have almost all the setup for them according to the book, but the problem I am facing now is the followingWhen I was looking for good dog food, the only brand that is available is Pedigree for puppies "20 Kg for 18$", but some shop had a limited quantity of Iams for puppies "2 lb for 11$" I bought the whole quantity which I am still feeding my pups from, but I am anticipating that I will run off within another two months max. I have also a two year GSD imported from South Africa who is on pedigree Dry Food, but I feel it is not his favorite food, he would rather the Iams dry food any time. Also I was advised to feed the dogs raw meat, I tried to search more information on the net, and seems it is 50/50 opinionated, some says nothing better to feed the GSD, and others stated that it is the worst you can do. However, I introduced the lean meat with occasional cheap ribs bones, and to my surprise, the dogs loved it like no tomorrow, since I am still feeding my puppies three meals/times a day, I introduced the fresh raw meat on one meal every two days, and the result was, dogs loved it, filler body, nice coat, firmer stool etc.)
Can any one advise if raw meat is OK to feed to GSD? Is there any side effect or anything that I need to worry about? Should I increase the frequency of raw meat meals since puppies are loving it?
Other question is, since Qatar climate is on the hot end (about 55 deg. cent. in summer/10 deg. cent in winter), I noticed a bad odor on the dogs even after frequent bathing, someone advised to increase the quantity of water, so I custom made them a bigger water containers. Problem has been reduced but not eliminated, could this be related to the Iams dog food, or the raw meat, or the volume of dogs since I don't have that big of a space for them.
Finally, the floor of the kennel is made of Terrazzo tiles, obviously grass is better, but I don't have such commodity, is it OK or are there any better suggestions?

I've switched all my dogs from kibble to raw only. 100 % improvement over the last year. Plus for some reason they don't have that doggy smell anymore. Someone had told me it's because their bodies don't have to try to get rid of the preservatives anymore that were in the food. I'll never go back to kibble again after the results I have. We have 5 adults and 2 pups on raw. Pups have been on raw since they were 5 months old.

Just wanted to clarify, they do get rmb's! Right now since I've found it so cheap, they're getting pork or beef neck bones, chicken necks, ground up wild boar meat plus we rotate with ground beef mix that we get locally pretty cheap.

wow, I keep my dogs away from all RAW pork products, just too much risk of Trichinellosis. The risk is even greater with wild pork meat.

To each his own I guess. There's only been 12 cases a year reported from 1997-2001, all meat is frozen. No one has come down with it yet. But I guess it all depends on the slaughterhouse you get your meat from. I buy mine from a local slaughterhouse. Now if I were to shoot one in my back yard (yes we have them running thru our property and others) then I'd have serious doubts esp. since you have to gut them properly. Not something he always has in stock obviously, but I do look for different things to feed. Heck I've narrowly avoided 2 deer the last 2 days. If one of those hits my car, dogs will be eating good!
