It seems like when people are considering a puppy's quality, postential, etc. they consider the sire / stud, whatever you call him, more than the mother. Is this true? If so, what is the reason? Are the pups somehow more likely to take after the father than they are the mother? I am only saying this because when I asked for opinions on a littler I plan to buy a pup from I received a few opinions on the father's breeding but none on the mother (but I didn't get very much feedback anyway ; I have only gotten two opinions, one from this discussion board) so I am just wondering if that is true or maybe if more people were to reply the replies would have been equal as far as expressing opinions on the mother and the father. The reason you hear so much more about the sires rather than the dam is because a stud has the ability to produce so many more offspring than a single dam. Because of this, the sire's traits are more well known and more focused on.
This doesn't mean that the dam is not as important, or in my opinion, more important than the sire. There is more genetic code stored within the dam's genes (female XX chromosome vs male XY). That 2nd X for the female chromosome has 1 leg more of genetic code than the male Y chromosome. The female also has the task of rearing and socializing the pups... this plays into their development as well.
What is important about the dam and does effect the pups, is her general personality and mothering ability. There is alot going on with the growth, developement and socialization in the pups the first 8 weeks. A fearful mother can raise timid fearful pups. No matter how good the background of sire and dam.

just for laughs I wanna see where this will go, not for soft skins, but isn't it like that in every aspect of life, isn't it all about the STUD, thats why James Brown made a song about it to spread the word, that "THIS IS A MANS WORLD"!!, LMAO! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
