If you get a pup that is not AKC registered because the dam is an import, and the contract on your pup says "AKC Registration IN PROCESS" (after you've been told the pup was already AKC registered, no less!)doesn't that mean if something were to happen to the breeder, that you would never see your AKC registration since only the breeder can register the litter? ALSO, if you get limited registration, same thing, it can never be lifted if something happens to the owner/breeder of the dam and sire?
Can anyone give me commonly accepted terms for "IN PROCESS" in regards to AKC registration of a pup?
I have found that this breeder has done this to many others besides myself. NO registration whatsoever, or limited at best.

I'll give you the same advice I was given by a breeder. Go to the AKC's website and get their number, it's I believe a 919 area code #, and call and talk to a rep. on the phone. I did this and they helped me out a lot.

AKC has a toll free number: (888) 445-2909. You can also post emails directly to their various departments - links provided at their website - - http://www.akc.org. Good luck!

We-ellll, to begin, I was told I would receive full registration. I wouldn't pay $3850 (what I paid) for a pup with limited registration. Once I got the contract WITH the pup at the airport, which was the first I'd seen of it, in order to lift the limited registration, you have to complete a LONG list of items. Most of them are fine, but some of them are just over the top.(i.e. Correct bite and number of teeth, hip x-rays good, Vorzuglich placing at a Sieger show, Working title (SchH1 minimum), gun shyness test, "suitable mate must be approved by us, we will gladly assist you in finding a compatible mate", dog must be evaluated by them in person, so on and so forth. In any case, it's bogus, as the dam isn't even paid off so she's not AKC registered herself. Who knows if I'll ever see the papers on this pup. I have retained an attorney, however. It's just not been a pleasant experience, but at least I have learned a very important (albeit EXPENSIVE!) lesson and made some good friends in the process.

Melaine,
Several of us here were in much the same situation, awaiting puppy papers on a dog whose sire had not been AKC registered. I didn't recieve the puppy papers until the dog was 19 months old, and I had a lot of sleepless nights worry about the outcome of that situation - and the breeder's lack of communication with all of us didn't help things any.
I wish you good luck in this matter, it still might work out for you, but the frustration of it sucks bigtime, I know.
If you wouldn't mind, could you either post the name of the kennel that sold you the pup, or send it to me via PM here on the board? I keep extensive records of breeding keenels, both what they produce and their interactions with clients, and I strive for an accurate data base ( it's a private list that I use for recommendations and warnings for my own clients )
Thanks!

I got a pup last may and was able to register right away. doesn't mean much anyhow,it's paper.
She's has severe overbite, see
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/ranidog
My question is I have heard conflicting statements about whether or not the same parents should be bred again.
The dentist suggested it would not be irresponsible to breed the pair again, as the likleyhood of them producing another no chin miniscule.
The partner vet who did the spay, suggested
that would be undesireable and irresponsible.
So depending how you all feel about it, Will might want to add this breeder to his list,no?
btw,Will, your mailbox is full!

If it's okay by Ed Frawley, then I will post the name here, otherwise, I won't. I know he has a section specifically set up for people like this, and he says that he decides who gets posted there and who does not. SO, I will await his permission to even put it here. I will, however, send you a private email, Will. This is also true for anyone who emails me or requests it.
