My rottie and I pull a wagon for several miles at a clip (he pulls, I walk). I have begun using a canvas muzzle whenever he is tied up along our route for my rest stops. The muzzle is for his protection. You never know when some knucklehead adult or curious kid is going to do something to your dog that provokes him. I tried one of the wire basket muzzles, great quality but it just would not stay on. I now have peace of mind that I am protecting my best friend from the acts of others that could someday make him pay the supreme price. He is really ok with the muzzle, I only leave it on for a few minutes followed by a good rub and a treat. Need to test your dogs nerves? Have him pull a wagon in Manhattan. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
In regards to leather softening or conditioning on leather muzzels - I used to work with horses. Never supposed to use on leather tack, and I believe I saw this same recommendation on Ed's site. This prematurely softens leathers and allows fibers to separate too easily.
I'm new to this site, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
