Well I thought I'd share my experience with the groomer today. I have taken Kane to this particular groomer a couple of times and have not had any problems.
Well I take him and I have his prong on because hes extremely hyper and pulling. So we walk in and I take his medicated shampoo for his yeast and leave him until it was time to pick him up at 2:00. So I walk in and the lady whom was different than the lady I handed him over too, said she wanted to talk to me about his collar. She told me that his prong collar was extremely tight and that it took two people to get it off of him. I then told her that it was fine this morning when I put it on him and I had no problem. She then argued that its supposed to have slack and I explained that its not supposed to be so loose that it falls low on the neck. She then still persisting to argue said that it was so tight it left sores on his neck and a foul oder was coming from it. I laughed and said that the oder she was smelling was the yeast in his ears not his neck and the scabs (if any) were do to the yeast. At that point I was so aggrivated I just told her to let me worry about the collar and good bye.
She must be one of those Anti-prong people. She was very dramatic to begin with saying she brushed him as best as she could but he was jumping and clawing and biting her. I then said that I have NEVER had a problem with him with "other" groomers and perhaps I should take him else where next time. She then was a "little" nicer and said that he wasnt biting her but he was pawing her. I said well yeah I know he looks like an adult but hes just a puppy.
I guess I can scratch that groomer off the list!
What I do is get one of those cheap wal mart kiddie pools and a stool then put my shorts on. I fill the pool w/ warm water. I put the stool and dog in the pool and start washing. I make no attempt to stay dry. I made a wash rack out of land scapeing timbers and pea gravel. I do all the grooming myself. lots of fun in the summer
Actually I usually bathe him myself but with the weather the way its been... its been too cold outside. I hate paying $35 for something I could be doing! But come summertime you bet Ill be out there bathing myself!!
Chastity, IMHO you shouldn't leave a prong collar on your dog for someone else to possibly use as a tool for discipline when you are not there. I think a prong is the "cat's meow".....but it is something that requires knowing your dog. We all do things differently, timing, degree of hardness of the correction just to name a few. It isn't fair to your dog. Improperly used it could cause problems.
If your groomer doesn't like the prong collar chances are she doesn't know how to use it.
Good luck treating the yeast infection. I have never had a dog with this condition so can't give any suggestions. I know it has to be unpleasant for both of you. Maybe you should try some Monistat cream!!
Sounds good to me Debbie, someone on this board suggested Massingill Douche for treating a skunked dog
You know what? You guys are right. But like I said I have never had a problem with this groomer and when I get him in the door I switch his leash to his regular collar. And they usually take off the prong as usual. I wasnt thinking yesterday about taking the collar off before I left since I had a house full of day care children waiting on me . But yeah I know I should have though about it.
