My new Border Collie puppy was in the crate earlier making a lot of noise. I wanted her to get used to the crate but at some point or another I snapped and growled slightly at her. Err, yes, like a dog. She stopped and looked around, and then gave a tiny muffled growl. I wasn't immediately concerned because she has shown no aggressive behaviour earlier whatsoever (although she did the same thing with my older dog when he growled at her because she had a bone and he wanted that one instead of the one he has). I took her out when she was quiet, played with her a while, and tried to do that growl again. She immediately looked at me, did that dog smile (I'm sure you people know what I mean, when you know for sure a dog is happy by the way he bounces his head and smiles), and then began kissing me all over. I'm utterly confused. Should I be concerned at all? Her growling didn't sound dangerous--just a sort of, "Eh?" thing. I know my older dog growls even when he doesn't mean it--like when I tell him to, or if he's jealous of one dog, or if he's erm...'happy' (wants to chase another dog)...does it all while sneezing and wagging his tail and jumping around...
