I have a 9.5 weeks old male GSD, German Bloodline. Being a new owner, I am being very watchful of moves. I have few questions, but don’t know if I should put them together or separately.
1. EAR INFECTION- Just two days back, one of my puppy’s ears stood up. This ear looks little irritated. Also there are few red spots in it. Is it just because it just stood up. Should I clean his ear with Hydrogen Peroxide every day? Please help.
2. DIET- Is it better to give him raw beef with bones or raw chicken with bones?
Here's a good article on the "ear" subject. It could be mites your pup has that may cause the irritation but this link should give you some general guidelines on cleaning them, etc
I will address the ear infection without the vote. For whatever reason all my GSD's have had issue's with ear infections, specificaly yeast infections. Even though my vet has repeatedly told me that upright ear breeds are not SUPPOSED to have this issue. My new pup came home at 7.5 weeks and had an ear infection within a week. Symptoms are similar to what you are describing. I treated once with an OTC treatment (ZMOT or something of the like) and it has not returned, he is now 15 weeks.
My older GSD I keep on a vitamin (PETSAVER) which appears to have drastically reduced her recurrence of this ear infection. I have also been told that this type of ear infection could stem from an allergy which caused moisture in the ear. The vitamin may help with this allergy??
Thank you so much. I had taken him to the vet yesterday and he checked his ears for mites. Found none. He cleaned the ears with "Malasab Flush". I am not sure how good it is. My puppy bites his back, so the Vet gave some parasitic test and gave one time use- "Revolution Selamectin". He did say that it could be just dry skin and prescribed a shampoo. I have not given the pup anything yet.
It went from just little ear infection to all of these. I am not sure if I got cheated on or this is a sincere precaution on the Vet's part.
Would you recommend any special shampoo? My pup’s ski is very very dry. I see white flakes like dandruff on his fur.
Any recommendations? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
