We were talking about this at training tonite. Man I don't envy anybody, its like a helper, a thankless job, always being critized and listening to a bunch of people moan and bitch. I like Mr. Nathaniel Roque as VP.... as a USA judge, saw him give some very popular national competitors a score that they deserve and not roll over and give some give me points just because who they were.

Yes, but it's a thankless job that these folks CHOOSE to apply for!! They should know going in what it entails. If they don't have the backbone or a thick skin then they should not even get involved.

You are very quiet on this. I have read many posts of yours and you do give a darn. I think that since you are less than enthusiastic about it you could be the one for the job. That or we will get Van Camp and all hell will break loose! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

This was just sent to the Regions from Nathaniel Roque.
(I'm glad to see that some nominees are willing to put forth their agenda for all to see...)
---------------------
"Dear (___Region),
I am honored to have been nominated for the position of Vice President of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America and after much thought and conversasions with some of our current and past Execuitve Board Members I accept the nomination.
If elected I would work during my term to address these issues and more.
1. USA has the apporiate programs in place to continue to provide the best product to our membership, Breed/Registration Program, Judges Program, National Events, Helper Program. I believe that we need to continue to build and work within these programs for our membership.
We need more quaility Judges, Helpers, Host Clubs for Events, more Breed Surveys ect.
2. We need to be more "Member Friendly", provide more and better communication to the general membership, through the use of our website in a news letter , through our magazine and through more education programs available to tne membership. I believe that programs like the new helper program will help to reach out to the members and offer them information and choices.
3. We need to improve our realationship with the WUSV and the SV. And continue to work hand in hand with the AWDF. And we again need to look at working out some sort of realationship with WDA, The Working Dog community in the US and the world is not growing, there is strenght in numbers, as long as we are all moving towards the same basic goals we need to work together not againist each other.
4. We need to make much better use of our resourses in our membership. Specific jobs and duties need to be outlined for EB members. The burden of running this organization should not fall on a few. Utlizing members like Howie Rodriguez, Phill Jobe, Johannes Grewe, Gary Hanrahan, Gene England and so many more for positions like SV Liasion, fund raising / sponsorship, World Championship Committee and WUSV Event Committee just to name a few jobs that need to be done. These are people that have a vast amount of knowledge, desire and talent to help our organization. We need to put them to use and let them do there job.
Thank you for considering my nomination for VP.
Nathaniel Roque

He's right about one thing - the Working Dog community in the U.S. is *not* growing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
The fact that traditional SchH people are split between three clubs ( SchH USA, DVG, and WDA ) hurts us *bad*. We have so few competitors to begin with, and then to further dilute their strength by dividing them into small organizations just makes the European parent clubs look at the U.S. clubs as small and unimportant.
Plus, the ever-increasing drive to make SchH more "PC" in Europe just makes SchH less and less of the test for breed suitability that Max envisioned it as. The rise of the reality based dog sports is a direct result of that, in my opinion.

A start to get things working decently in the US would be reciprocity. All groups acknowledge each others' titles (no questions asked, no getting new stamps or approval of your scorebooks, etc), judges be recognized between each group (and therefor we get a larger judging base to draw from for individual trials), and basically anything else that will have all 3 groups working as a team to help the sport of SchH within the USA rather than helping each other. Hell, maybe even a National event where the best from each club's Nationals can compete for that year's bragging rights.
As for getting back to the way things were...I don't think it will ever happen. People today are too touchy feely and would never go for returning to the reed stick and real pressure...much less gunfire in protection.

Meant to say...
...and basically anything else that will have all 3 groups working as a team to help the sport of SchH within the USA rather than only helping themselves.

Well, judging would have to be done on a more professional basis then and cheating really clamped down on.
As it is now, Some judges are bending the rules in a very unprofessional manner to help other judges or board members, etc.
And yes, pressure needs to be increased again to weed out the weaker dogs - which the show people would revolt over, so the SV would never go for it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Vicki Keller (SE Region) is on the list for VP nominations:
"It is an honor to have been nominated for the position of Vice President of USA. It is also an honor and my pleasure to serve the organization currently as Regional Director, Education Committee Chair, National Events Committee Chair and Appointed Chair for the `09 WUSV Event Committee. In addition I have served as Treasurer for AWDF and Assistant Team Captain for the WUSV team and representative for the AWDF team to the FCI World Championship in '01.
I have been asked to answer the question of what is my vision for the organization and I think that can best be summarized as providing quality services to our members. I would like to encourage efforts to provide the best quality registration services, educational programs and local, regional and national events. This involves seeking member input to our programs and asking our members to evaluate our efforts in providing these services. In a time of declining membership, listening to our members and offering programs and events that best reflect their needs seems critical. Also, in looking forward to '09, we need broad based member support to host a top quality event and that also requires member input and feedback. And finally, I am grateful every day for our German Shepherds that offer their devotion, intelligence, and dignity to our families and our communities.
Thank you
Sincerely
Vicki Keller"
