Most people in the military have heard of the Famous Chip, but for those that don't know him, I ran across this story, and thought I'd share it with yall. Chip, the most decorated war dog
Lynn, I'm glad you enjoyed the story, it's a shame how we treat our service dogs huh? I hope things change for them and soon, they are soldiers, just like us and deserve what accolades their courage brings. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Chips is buried in a known cemetary somewheres.
Thank's Chris! I've read this numerous times over the years and it never fails to bring out a number of different emotions. Thinking about the Nam dogs always just make me pissed!
I know the thread is a little old but, seeing this topic reminded me of my meeting about four years ago with John C. Burnam who wrote "Dog Tags Of Courage".
He autographed one of his books for me and in addition, gave me a copy of "Parade" from the Boston Globe whichhad a special on war dogs.
In it they covered America's first canine hero, a Bull Terrier named "Stubby" who recieved a victory medal for valor in WWI. Also covered was "Chips"(WWII) and "Nemo" Viet Nam. A very interesting read. I wish I knew how to get a link to the article.
