Why in the world would your sister want to have a dog like that? If my dog big a kid, no matter what, it would be put down. Period. What is her motivation for keeping it? It's just going to bite again. Maybe it will be HER. Put the dog down NOW.
I've asked myself that same question. I don't understand how anyone can want to keep a dog after it has bitten and caused so many people stitches? I have other comments but they aren't so nice so i'll keep it to myself
I'm thankful I found this site..lots of info I've learned and it's helped me to understand dogs better. Like I said in a previous post I won't be going back to my sisters unless the dog is gone and she's done being mad at me.
I have a question about a pit bull who is a fixed 10 months old. )and trying to save the dog
He said that the city looked at banning pits but then there are people that say the dog isn't a pit but a boxer or only 1/2 pit."
Deanna,
Please don't call it a Pit bull if it is not one or if it a boxer or a mix with one. That is one of the reasons that these dogs get such a bad name because as soon as there is a dog bite they alsways say oh it was a Pit when it probeley was a mix or a totally different breed. If it looks anything like a Pit Bull thats what they would call it. I wonder how many of those stories where they say Pit bull bites someone and there is no pic of the dog in the paper are really Pit Bulls. I am tired of the breed being portrayed as vicious when it is not true.
This IS a pit bull
the health dept is wanting to ban pits in the city but was having a hard time because of other people saying their dog is a boxer, not full pit, etc. And because of that it causes a problem for them
I know that pits get a bad name ESPECIALLY from owners that have NO business owning them (IE:my sister). My sister is saying the same thing that you are right now...oh he's not vicious....her's IS
My agent from my home owners insurance called up one day for some insignificant reason, and then at the end of the conversations said, "oh, by the way, I'm supposed to ask you if you have a dog, and if so, what kind?". I was really surpised by this and asked him why it mattered if I had a dog or not, and if I did have a dog, why the heck would it matter what kind I had. He continued to tell me that the insurance company has a list of "20 most vicious dogs" and if you have a dog on the list, if there is ever an incedent involving that dog, it will not be covered. I have a German Shepard and yes they are on the list, as well as pits, rots and few other common dogs.
When I got my GSD it was right at the same time as my home owners insurance renewal, they told me the same thing! I was annoyed, but I went ahead and cancelled my policy with them. I found a new insurance agent that came to my house and my insurance was almost cut in half, and they covered GSD's (but not Dobermans, go figure.... pits were also on their uninsured list)... but now my dog is covered and I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance .... I switched from Geico to the same company I have HOI with (I forget the name) for auto ins. too
Having an un-muzzled aggressive dog around your children is irresponsible, put it down or find it a dedicated home, but I doubt the dog's demeaner will change, so the first option is probably the best. Although, sometimes its the dog's environment that sets the dog off, I don't mean to bad mouth your sister any, but do you know how that dog is treated when nobody else is around? Or what the kids do to it when there's no supervision? Kids love to pull tails and hit dogs on the nose. Good luck getting this situation resolved.
My neices and nephews aren't one for abuse. BUT my oldest neice (20) mentioned that she sees her stepdad in the backyard doing things (what that means I'm not sure)with the dog that could help with the aggression.

Otherwise I know my sister babys the dog
Glad to hear it You should ask your niece what is meant by "things". Always a shame to see a dog get ruined, wether it be by bad breeding or bad handling.
