Hi JD,
NO, it isn't a waste of money! Over 4000 dogs died of dehydration in 2004. For the most part, any time you can get your dog to drink more water you are on the right track. The http://www.dogdrink.net you refer to does do that. It isn't an electrolyte drink. The electrolytes are there for taste. And there isn't enough of these ingredients to keep the water in the gut. The water will migrate to the cells of the body that need it.
Although, there are a number of people who believe they know what they are talking about regarding the subject of dog drinks. They really have no compelling proof for their claims that dog drinks won't help get your dog hydrated. Jeff, Lou, you don't know what you are talking about. The dog drink that JD is refering to, will in fact, do a better job of keeping your dog hydrated than normal water. A dog will drink more K9-Quencher than normal water. That's a fact. Until you do your own study that it doesn't, don't give bad advice. I infact, have don't a study in a clinical setting, and it does get dogs to drink more. Check your facts boys.

I looked at the link you provided. The first ingredient was sugar. No, thanks. It would get kids to drink more, too, but I don't care! I don't WANT them to drink more sugar!
I'll stick with the water that I've boiled some chicken in for times when my dogs need more water than they're in the mood to drink. Let's see, now.....meat or sugar? Meat or sugar?

Thanks Connie for your input. I agree with you about, most human drinks! Way too much sugar!
But, NO, is the wrong word when considering your dogs hydration health. If you exercise our dog in the heat of the summer, or they herd for you, or are a security patrol dog, or compete in a sport event, they could really use the boost that K9-Quencher gives in extra water, which translates into better hydration.
When you mix 10 grams of K9-Quencher (2 tablespoons), in a half gallon of water, the bad sugar is less than 1% of the total ingredient amount.
Connie, sugar isn't a bad ingredient. Of course it could be, if it were abused like they do with human drinks. The fact is that the small amount mixed in a half gallon, can't be noticed, you and I would not know it was there. The great thing is a dog's senses is quite keen and they detect it even in these small amount.

I think you are refering to pedialyte.
The trouble is that most dogs don't like the taste.
Next time you are at your group mention K9-Quencher as a hydration alternative.

Hi Lisa,
With regard to your mentioning electrolytes. They good for your dog, but in most cases, dog don't loose electrolytes while dehydrated. The main thing that happens is that they loose tons of water.

Hi Dennis,
My vote is it isn't a waste of money.
I just really hope that you beautiful dog doesn't get dehydrated.
I believe, Melissa, understands that how dogs perspire. Her comment is that dogs really don't loose many electrolytes, like humans do. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the rest of your point of view. This part, though: This isn't the way sugar or other ingredients are measured, generally. How many of the calories supplied are sugar? Most of 'em.
I get you, though. Just don't agree. I'd rather give lots of water, and if the dog isn't interested in enough water (like a sick dog, sometimes), then I make it interesting by boiling some white chicken in it.
But we all have different ideas.....or we wouldn't have a need for a forum!
