Has anyone used this device? I saw it advertised as a option for Dogtra's train and contain system.Did it make any difference? Is it more or less effective than the original prongs? Does it lessen the chances of a pressure sores? Are there any advantages or disadvantages in using the 24 hr contact pad?
I'm in the process of testing a few of them. Judging by appearances it should cut down on the problem of sores that are sometimes associated with having the collar on for too long a period of time. Testing it on myself, and this is of course not scientific, the stim level feels a bit more intense with the contact pad. That translates to being able to set the dial a bit lower than before. Another part of the idea is that intimate contact with the skin is not as necessary as before. I don't know how that's supposed to work and haven't had them long enough to test that side of the question.

Does the contact pad make it easier to solve the thick-hair problems that I still have even with the special fur penetrating tips that I ordered? I found the best way to make it work is to let my dog run around and let the prongs "settle in" for a few minutes, but it's still not consistent, there's times when I can stim my dog, see his neck muscle twitch, but he doesn't respond to any level, but then there's other times where he'll jump up in surprise on a low level stim, so I'm still looking for a more consistent way to penetrate his fur.
Thanks, Lou. Could you post when you find out how well they work. Does the contact pad work with all transmitters or just the containment system. I am thinking of using it. My female GSD has figured out a 6 ft chainlink fence is no match for her. I saw where Ed recomends this type of electric fence to help keep escape artist inside.
Mike it's advertised as helping with the thick hair problem. I'd also suggest that you try some thinning shears, that you can get at a good pet store, to thin out the hair. I've never needed to shave the neck to get good contact.
Tracy as soon as I've used the pads for awhile I'll write up a review. I think that there are two sizes that fit all of the Ecollars in the Dogtra line, besides the IF models. I haven't seen any for the smaller sizes but since the ones I have are marked "large base mount – for 1 1/4" spacing" I'll assume that there is a model for smaller contact point spacing. It looks as if they'll also fit the TT brand models that have removable contact points as well. There might be a problem with using them on TT's and warranty work though.
