Our first trainer told us to always use a counter command for every command to let the dog know when he is "free." But I don't see this addressed by Ed anywhere. Does anybody else use counter commands? Do you use them for every command or just some (i.e. heel or place command)? I find it very confusing and also hard to be consistent.

One of the common problems people run into is dog training is terminology. I have never heard the term COUNTER COMMAND before but I tend to lean towards your trainer meaning a RELEASE COMMAND.
