I had an interesting conversation with a friend who does research for the government.
He was assigned to determine the effectiveness of dogs locating a specific unnamed super secret substance.
In training he used filter papers with the "odorant" on them. To prevent the dog from learning the filter paper he placed it without the odorant throught the boxes he used to initiate the behaviors. Idea was that the dog would not associate the paper with the odorant.
Of course when he went to do practical trials the dogs began to make indication on the filter paper without the odorant.
Why?? In a changing unusual situation where the dog is now doing some problem solving it played the percentages. There was a reward when the paper was present...so take a chance when the paper is present and the odorant is not.

Thanks for all the good info. Kinda confirms what I thought. I am going to buy like 5 pieces of each of the "big 4" drug scents. I plan to only use one at a time and not expose the others to open air until the one being used loses scent properties and needs to thrown away. Its kind of a hassle but until I get the DEA license its the only alternative I have as I don't totally trust the manufactured scent products or I should say I don't trust myself enough training with them to get the desired results. I'll order my drug exposed articles tommorrow and see how they work. Thanks again-Derek
