In a month or two I'm going to be adopting a Sch3 dog. Her name is Floh von der Kopperpahlerallee, she's 9, and apparently she was a pretty good competitor when she was active. I've had 2 Dobies but no Sch dogs. I'm purchasing a crate, bed, prong, outside kennel, and realize that she's not a dog that can probably just be let loose to run. Met her once and she's a very friendly nice dog.
I plan on long daily walks on lead (she's been in a kennel 2 years) and crating her at home initially. Have a cat so they will be kept separated. I would appreciate any tips or warnings, of what to and not to do with her. I have not had a professionally trained dog like her (I trained mine obedience) and may join the local Schutzhund club with her, if she still wants to work at it.
Any guidance on her would be appreciated. Beautiful sable, and I want to give her a good home!
Retired Schh3 dogs make the very best companions - she will probably be the best trained, and best behaved dog you have ever had. You will probably find that leashes, crates, prongs and being careful with your cat are not necessary. Just put a blanket on your couch to make her comfortable, and prepare for a great experience owning a wonderful retired working GSD.
