First off, let me say that I have used the search function and could not find what I am looking for... I have heard different opinions and decided to ask the experts.
My older dog, during bite work, latches on to the suit or sleeve with no issues. She will growl occasionally on the bite, but usually it just a firm hard grip. During play with a tug, she does the same. Now with the young one, almost 10 months old.... During the bite or playing with the tugs, he tends to do a lot of the head shaking. Almost as if he is fighting with the object. He does not let go, but he twists and shakes his head. I know he is still young in his training, but should I be concerned?
Thanks for your reply. I had a previous trainer tell me that my pup was lacking in confidence because of the way he acts with the prey object. I don't see it. But I guess thats why we no longer work with that trainer. After his attempt to work my dog in defense at 5 months of age, it was the last time I used him.
Watch some KNPV trials and this whole calm grip thing gets a little fuzzy! The way some of them thrash on the decoy is really cool to watch. It doesn't mean you have to go that way, but in ringsports they don't care that it happens either!
