A puppy of four months old leaks urine wile walking around the house. She is not squating to urinate, but does this while just walking. She is going to see the vet soon, but was hoping for some insight.
Yes, if this puppy is just leaking I would take her to the vet. She may have a problem. Many spayed older bitches have this and they are put on phenylpropanolamine. It helps empty the bladder. Get your vet to do an examination and go from there <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I knew a child who had the same problem i think it was called kidney reflux (it was not incontenance). In humans it can be fixed with a simple surgical procedure, you may find it is something similar.
The sooner you get to the vet the better as it can lead to infection sometimes which will complicate the diagnosis.
Completely different situation. With ureteral reflux urine goes from the bladder to the kidnys. This can cause kidney infections and lead to renal scarring. The most common cause of urine leaking from the bladder is a lack of muscle that closes the bladder. Some pupies will have this problem, but usually grow out of it by the time they are 2-3 months old. Reflux to the kidney is cause by a lack of muscle tone combined with a defect in a "one way valve" that is at the point where the ureter and bladder attach.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
Just FYI, also have this pup checked for juvenile vaginitis (it is late and I am not sure about the spelling..sorry). This is something that young females can get. You will sometimes see a discharge from the vulva and one of the first signs is more frequent urination...breakdown in housebreaking. If this pup is to be spayed we usually recommend letting them go through one heat cycle beforehand. That seems to clear it up. With people who are not going to breed or just have your good old Humane Society Mutts (I love those!!!)we recommend spaying before the first cycle.
Just talk to your vet about options. If they are going to give you antibiotics get them to do a culture to see what the medicines she is sensitive to. It is a little added cost but can help in he long run...don't want to run a course of something that won't be effective.
