Baton,
I don't know many who would doubt that a dog could, or would, jog with you beginning at 6 months of age. The question is *should* they?
Vets can tell on an x-ray when growth plates close (generally for large dogs, sometime around the 14-18 mo age range). It seems a lot cheaper to be on the safe side and get an x-ray from your vet, than to have orthopaedic problems later.
Most dogs have orthapedic problems later. This depends on how crazy the dog is to begin with. If you really want to get into it, making a dog chase a tennis ball can cause serious problems with his shoulders later in life, all the coming to a quick stop and reaching down for it.
Then there is bitework, NEVER do bitework, All my dogs had issues with their backs in later years from crashing into the decoy.
Then you should wait till the dog is at least three, so everything is mature, and they are old enough mentally to take the unbearable stress of trying to keep up with an out of shape human that can barely gasp thru two miles.
Let the dogs run, dang you! Let them run!!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
