My 10wk old GS pup has been scratching for 2 weeks now,
I took him to vet and we ruled out flea's ect. Was treated didn't help, he is on a all natural diet same as breeder had him on. He has white flakes like dandruff on hind end. Does anybody know what this could be, feel so sorry for little fellow scratching all the time, I also put him on some Cod Liver Oil, thought it might help if just dry skin. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Flax seed oil and omega 3 are also good for skin & coat, I highly reccomend flax seed oil for the life of the dog.
To rule out food related allergies, try buying your raw ingedients in a different place, or give him one type of food a day for 4 or 5 days and see if he has less irritation one day to the next.
In humans dandruff is related to stress and anxiety - have you had any big recent changes in your dogs lifestyle, people staying with you that have now left, or some other stressful event in the dogs life that could cause this type of problem? Do you bathe the dog? Perhaps shampoo related? Or if you've never bathed him it could be irritation from picking things up in the back yard. If it's not a physical/medical issue, I would look at diet and lifestyle.
His raw diet consists of flax seed oil and omega 3, I did bath him after he started scratching didn't help, I never though about it being stress related I've only had him two weeks and he did go through a 12 hour day of 5 hours on a plane, 2 hours in car ect. perhaps I should just give it a few more days to see if he clears up.
Thanks

And then, if you click on "search" (upper right screen) and type in "itchy" or "allergies" or "skin" in the box, and expand the date range (because it's pre-set at one week or newer), you'll come up with dozens (literally) of long threads full of info about itchy skin.
