Will try not to make this to long. Was at the public park today working my puppy on the playground equip. and proofing some OB. We saw and talked to a couple other pets and owners. My puppy was confronted by a loose dog at the same park when he was very young and is now a little dog agressive which we are working and doing well. Then we saw an older man with a white GSD coming down the trail so I walked a little closer to the trail and put my dog in a platz. Then I heard the man yell get that damn dog out of here and noticed him pulling on his dog which was on a harness saying no dog no dog. I was startled to hear this at first than I wanted to get ugly with him but than burted out something like if you cant' control your dog just go home old man (Ihave a short fuse) The man came storming at us came up to about 15 feat from us and we exchanged a few comments as I said I don't want to make this tooooooo long. All the while my dog stated in his platz and his dog had his hackles up and his tail bent. He called me a dumb some of a bitch and if I called him an old man again he would let his dog go and chew mine to pieces. Than states he asked mee to let him go threw and his dog was only 6 months old bla bla bla. I wanted to say more but kept Quite. After he finally past I went up to a couple ladies that were walking on trail and saw the whole thing and talked to them.I asked them if he asked me to let him pass they said no he said get your damn dog out of here. They also told me that he is there every morning and the police have told him the dog is to much for him. I than went and talked to another woman who was bringing up several young children to the park that had to stop as we had our discussion. I let the kids talk to my dog and the woman was very impressed saying they were watching us train. What should I have done . My CHL is exspired and don't carry anymore. I know I could have run his dog off and easily whipped his butt. That is not what I am after. I am getting to old and it is not a Christian thing to do. Anyone else had any run ins like this or any advice how to take care of it
No one can stay out of trouble at the park. If you didn't have your dogs leash in your hand I couldn't blame the man for yelling. Warrant he could have been tactful but it makes me livid when people don't feel they should have their dogs on leash at all times. If there is no one at the park that's an entirely different situation.
Regardless how well behaved your dog is, people may be out there who are working on getting their dog well behaved and socialized. You may have a frightened pup who may display some fear aggression because of your dog being lose. This could scar him for life.
The bottom line is people practice common sense when you do these things. I'm not speaking of you directly but generally speaking...
Owners should start screaming more and making people will be more cognizant of the crazy things they do when they go to the park.
Some walk up "Oh can I rub your dog" "Can my dog meet your dog?"
HECK NO!!! This isn't the 700 Club. I'm not a park fanatic by any means and supporter of leash laws.
It simply prevents insane mistakes.
Sorry I went on a tangent but these park, pet store situations are becoming oh too common these days.
There's a subject on here now about a dog park fight.
I think there is something flawed with people who buy White GSD's. Everyone that I've met has been crazy, and I've never seen a white GSD that was a good dog. I know someone on this board probably owns one with a SCH III that also works as a therapy dog on weekends. But it sounds like both the owner and the dog were more than a little off.

Guys, Mitch's dog was in a down stay. He never said whether or not he was on a leash or not. The old man's dog WAS on a leash but he clearly did not have control.

This was not a dog park and yes we were on a leash as it is city ordinance and we are not developed enough to work off leash. The mans dog clearly needs some socializing and some help as he doesn't know what he is doing. The dog was OK until he put the pressure on the dog and kept telling him no dog. We were there to socialize with people and other dogs behaving or not and to do some proofing on our OB
Sounds like the crazy guy with the lil rat dogs on my street, he isn't a bad guy per se, he just screams about everything - it's the way he is. One time one of his lil rat dogs went missing, he went door to door in the street banging on everyones door as if he wanted to break the door down and kill you - then yelled something about his missing dog, I told him no I haven't seen your dog - this was before I got my GSD or I woulda just sent him to bark at the door till he went away lol.
I know it's difficult - I sure as heck have a hard time to do it - but the best thing is to let it go and accept that some people are just frikkin stupid and shouldn't own a dog, or be allowed in a park, or come into contact with people at all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
