it is just a tad frustrating to see folks believe that these kind of dogs are American Pit Bull Terriers…,they ARE NOT, they are a terrible mutation of a wonderful breed.
Val,
I'm with you on the misery for this wonderful breed, but terrible mutation from bad breeding or not, they are still pitbulls. (I know also, that if a dog is crossed with pitbull they will call it a pitbull, but that is probably 15-25% of the bite statistic pitbulls, sadly the rest are pitbulls).
Look at some of these absolutely poor examples of a GSD (showlines, American lines) that is no where close to how they were originally bred, however, they ARE still GSD's. I fought for a while holding to hope that some day the breeding would be left to professionals with this breed, but they just are to popular and to much of an ego boost for trash and thugs, and they will forever be attracted to them. I have realized what I didn't want to all along, the breed as we know it is gone, are atleast endangered. The trash and thugs are making it extremely difficult for the people who should have their hands on this breed to own them. One by one those people will find it not worth it anymore. When the majority was professionals who had their hands on this breed thats when they should have policed their own. They didn't and it is so far out of control there is no turning back I think even if the responsible wanted to start to act. Trash and thugs ran through a few breeds, dobermans, then rottis, then pitbulls, AB's, presas, but they have laxed up on the others a bit minus presas, they are just finding out about them, their popularity soared with the T & T when they killed that chick in San Francisco, how said was that. But the pitbull has been the long lasting, long standing ego boost of choice for the T & T's. I don't predict it will ever go away, until the Law steps in and takes them from their hands. Only problem is it will become a prejudice against the minority and the poor white so they will have no choice but to ban them across the board, no more in US territories, Watch, I predict between year 2011-2015 as a standard prediction but wouldn't be suprised if it happened by the year 2009. The ban people are loosing but winning at the same time. They loose the majority of the cases they get to vote or to legislature, but they gain more and more support and votes everytime they bring it up, it's only a matter of time before they really get it going and get the votes in states and legislatures. Once the majority of the states are on board, they will go with a nationwide ban to prevent states from overturning it, citing that the majority has spoken, no pitbulls or pitbull crosses, though I bet they broaden that discription to include many more bully breeds. JMO
I understand what you are saying, and semantically I have to agree. Since a Pit Bull means APBT, Am St and SBT you are correct. But I will disagree these crosses - some more bully or bull dog than APBT are not APBT. Even Am Staffs are bred away from the standard for the sake of color, size etc....they are not APBTs. Only worthy APBTs crossed with other worthy APBTs are APBTs. By worthy I mean two dogs that have a chance of bettering the breed, measured by the breed stndard. Even Am Staffs although grouped with APBTs as PITs tend to be worrisome to me as they are bred away from what makes the dogs have sted fast temperments and purpose. The best pull dogs produced, the best hog dogs. It's like taking a great working GSD and breeding that tremendous slope down it's back...for what purpose other than someone likes the look. It is even more tenuous with an APBT as you breed away from the standard the possibility you are mutating what makes the dog a great working dog into something that is potentially dangerous. I only need look at my pure bred male APBT and my mixed APBT/Am Staff female to tell you it is her temperment that brought me here to this site...her drives are exggerated and without continual training is a danger to other dogs.....he does not have these problems, so I will maintain APBTs should remain to standard and the other Pit breeds need to be examined.....so yes they are all Pits...but not really IMHO.
