Well, I have had my new GSD puppy for two weeks now and he is 10 weeks old. The basic training in obedience has gone pretty well and he just about has got setz, platz, and komm down. However, he likes to bite ALOT and I've started to give him a pretty stern correction when he bites me.
When I correct him for biting (the only time I correct)I grab him by the back of his neck and tell him "NO BITE" looking right into his eyes. So far it seems to be working.
Am I Doing the right thing or is this being too harsh at such a young age? Is there anything else I can do to prevent him from biting me as an alternative or in addition? Thanks in advance for your advice.

what are you going to train for? If just for pet I would correct if for pp or sport I would not. I would try to offer something else to bite and let him outgrow the palybiting it does stop. If correcting you could make a mistake that could hurt or set back future bite training.
Hi James, i love that part of having a new puppy, the only way i used to pet my female till she was about 14 weeks old was with a welding glove on , that's one of the reasons i found this site, lol, stick a kong in it's mouth, and enjoy the little alligator, it goes by to fast, imo, AL
Here I have to giggle, we just got a 14 month old mal puppy that is tug and bite obsessed. If it moves he is biting it. (Actually even if it dosen't move he is biting it) Prey drive through the roof! Since we are training him as a PPD, we are definatly doing the "quick suff his tug in his mouth!!" thing.
He reminds me of a mako shark!!!
There are some really great articles on the main site about this, and I am waiting for several of ED's videos to get here in the mail as we speak.
