Your quest to give rabid dogs studies is bound to fail. Sure it is nice to shove it in their face, but since they don't know reality as it exists on this planet, what difference do you think a study is going to make?
It makes no difference, to them. But it can make a lot of difference to the bystanders listening or reading the conversation.
When one of these "experts" pops up, with all those degree-initials and references to "scientific" studies that they'll never read, a lot of people give them more credence than they should.
And when one of these experts comes out and says something like "there's never been an academic study that found that e-collars do not do harm and anyone who claims that there was is lying", is lying herself.
Calling her a liar, though, without substantiation, does the cause no good. But politely pointing out that her search for such studies missed this, and that, and the other one, helps the readers of the discussion to determine how much credence to give to her when she makes such claims.
Just look at it a different way, these people will then say that the study is biased.
I have seen dogs harmed by the e-collar. I saw a dog that the guy never took it off and the prongs ate into the skin. I have seen dogs that flinch and hide at the first sign of the collar and straighten out after they are caught.
I have never seen bad things occur with these collars unless abuse was involved.
Another thing is keep the secret of their use to yourself. Let these people do things their own way, which according to PETA all animals should roam free. Nothing wacky about that. There is no harm in letting someone be an idiot.
I myself, don't use an e-collar. Can't afford one, or I probably would on a few exercises that I can see the benefit. Until then, I just keep hacking away at it. It will still get done ans I am in no hurry.
