Backchaining the Retrieve with Michael Ellis

Posted: 05-04-2018 • Length: 3 Minutes, 28 Seconds
Categories: Leerburg Training Videos
The concept of “Backchaining” is a valuable concept in dog training, especially when we begin to teach our dogs more intricate & complex behaviors. When we break down behaviors into smaller components and teach our dogs these individual parts, we eventually have to ‘chain’ those parts together to get the final product. Backchaining simply reverses the process. We teach the final piece of a behavior first, then work backwards and add in each part of the behavior in front of what the dog already knows. This clip is taken from our new video, Training the Retrieve, where Michael Ellis talks about more about what backchaining is and how we utilize it in regards to training a formal retrieve.
