Excellent advice, not only for sheep guardian dogs, but for anyone thinking about using e-collars. In my own experience, I have an e-collar and I've ended up never actually needing to use it. I've always done all things necessary to change a behavior first, including first learning about my problem through listening to dog training advice. Interestingly, in my case, it always turns out that the e-collar sits in a drawer.
