I trained my dog on papers and now he refuses to go to outside. Any tips?
Full Question:
I have an 8 month gsp. I trained him fully on papers. He holds it in all night. I am frustrated and I walk him, he refuses to make outside... any tips? Should I not put down the papers... Your Q&A page was not working properly. I need some help so the gsp can be fully housebroken to go outside. I am one step into sending him to a foster home for adoption. My gsp has the makes on a good family dog. Need help. Thanks,
Anna
Cindy's Answer:
Training him to use papers was not what I would have suggested for such a big dog. He’s just doing what you taught him. He thinks the inside of the house is his bathroom.
We have a section on the website about housetraining.
You need to start him all over like he’s a new puppy and take away the option of using papers. If he’s not crate trained, you need to get him a crate and use it. I’d also put some used newspapers outside in the area you want him to use as his bathroom.
We also have a number of online courses, which include topics that may help you.
There is one specifically on housetraining problems.
