Can a dog get a blockage from raw chicken legs?

Full Question:
Can a dog get a blockage from raw legs? Someone I know has fed raw for years and her 10 year old male just got sick and died. Vet said it was a bowel blockage?

I started feeding this way and now am concerned.

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
In my experience, a dog can get a blockage from many things. If you are concerned about feeding whole foods and blockages, then I would recommend grinding your dog's food. I'm sorry about your friend's dog but unless the vet was supportive of feeding raw, it may or may not be the case. There may have been other medical issues that we aren't aware of, the dog may have swallowed a non food foreign body, etc...

Here is a Q&A section on raw feeding.

The best books for learning about the raw diet are Raw Dog Food and Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats. We give both these books to our puppy customers and rarely have questions about the diet. One of the newer feeding books we offer is Raw & Natural Nutrition for Dogs. This title covers homemade cooked & raw diets complete with recipes. I highly recommend all these books.
