My 4 month old pup is eating his poop. What else can we do to stop this behavior?

Full Question:
Hi,

I have a 4 month old GS puppy that since 8 weeks, has been eating his poop. We follow him and clean up, but sometimes he gets some we didnt find. I feed him Blue Buffalo, and give him GNC brand No Poop pills.

He seems to have a sensitive stomach, as I changed high value treats to your red barn and he gets diarrhea. For this reason, I am hesitant to change food.

Thanks,
Melissa

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
I would change him to a more digestible grain free food. If a switch is done gradually then you can avoid digestive upsets. We have a great section on feeding dogs on the website.

Blue Buffalo has a lot of fillers and often giving dogs more meat based nutrition along with adding digestive enzymes can help.

There are some dogs that do this out of habit or boredom, so picking up after him right away is important. I’m glad to hear you are doing this.
