We plan on getting a schnauzer puppy in April. I have received 3 of your DVDs to help prepare myself for house training, etc. the puppy. One breeder told us to get a belly band for the puppy in the house while house training--even in the crate. I haven't seen you mention anything like this. Is this a good idea or something to disregard? Thanks. ![Cindy](https://leerburg.com/Photos/articles/authors/cindyrhodes.jpg)

The only dog I would use a belly band on is a dog that is incontinent due to medical reasons, injury or old age. In my opinion it's not a useful tool for house training because it doesn't teach the puppy to be clean in the house or crate.
I would disregard that suggestion.

I would disregard that suggestion.

User Response:
Thank you so much for your response. It didn't sound like a good idea to me. I wouldn't be vigilant like I should be when I should be--it would be too easy to depend on the belly band. I wouldn't be the leader of the pack if I just changed wet belly bands and him wearing in the crate would defeat the whole idea of the crate. Thanks again!!!
