Have you ever had a problem with moisture build up in indoor kennels during the winter? How did you handle it?

Full Question:
I live in Maine and have a 22' x 32' indoor kennel building with concrete floor and walls. There are 12 individual kennels inside. The building is heated and has floor drains. I have found in the winter, I get lots of moisture build up inside. I'm wondering if you have experienced similar problems and how you have dealt with the excessive moisture.

Ed Ed's Answer:
I did have an issue like this. I solved it by installing an air exchanger in the kennel. I built my kennel 23 years ago. The model was called "Quiet Vent." I do not know if that company or model are still available. If it is not, I am sure there are other companies that make these. My memory was they were made in Madison, WI.

The Quiet Vent had an exhaust vent to the outside. What it did was exhaust air from inside the building outside. The unit had a simple control that allowed me to set the time for it to turn on and set how long it ran.

I experimented with how long it ran to the point where there was no moisture in the rooms. It worked nicely.

This increased the heating costs a little but not much. More importantly it got rid of the moisture. Too much moisture in the winter gets dogs sick and puppies can die.

Hope this helps!
