Hello, Cindy. I have a 14 months old GSD. He is usually very playful. Loves training and engages fairly well at home. About 6 weeks ago we moved out from our house due to remodeling. His normal routine used to be spending all day next to me while I worked at my desk, play in the evening. Since we moved it changed. At first he was fine with our moving. In couple of weeks he started to get cranky and edgy, even snaped at my son. I corrected him very strongly. By slapping him on his muzzle and putting him in crate. I am trying to keep him with me more and have somewhat old routine back. After that he seemed to calm down. He is not as protective and not agressive anymore, but now he is opposite. He is very quiet, not very motivated to do any obedience, not too much interest in food. He just goes in his crate and sleeps. He plays some with ball, but not with his toys in house like he used to.I don't think he is sick. Why did he change, age?Too harsh of correction? Our bond is broken? Thanks.
I'd get him in to a vet for a thorough check up. It sounds like he may have some hidden medical issue going on.
Hello, Cindy. I took your advise and went to see a vet the same day. I would like to thank you VERY MUCH!!! He did have a health issue! He was diagnosed with ehrlichia, a tick borne disease. Vet thinks it is in its early stage and prognoses should be good. I was very shocked that he had it, because I am very precise on time with his preventative meds. Normally I would suspect something is wrong with his health; but since we just moved, everybody thought that the move changed him. I can't thank you enough for your advise!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
