Should I have eye contact in competition Long Sit and Down Stays?
The answer to this is: it depends. Some dogs are more likely to break position with direct eye contact and some will be more likely to stay. It's all about how you train and proof your dog, you will have to determine which option is best for your particular dog.
Some dogs feel too much social pressure with direct eye contact, but for others, it's a comfort.
G'day Cindy,
Many thanks, my dog is a Tenterfield Terrier (Minty) and being a small breed I am trying to determine if its me and my cue for the long sit & down or whether it is just insecurity amid big dogs, I am very grateful for the information and will continue to proof. Cheers from Australia
