What is the best food for puppy & adult malinois?
Full Question:
Hi Cindi- what is the best food for puppy & adult malinois? Thank you
Cindy's Answer:
I've fed only raw food since the mid 1990's and it's what we have fed all of our personal dogs as well as our breeding dogs and litters.

Do you mind sharing what kind of meat( where you get it) & your procedure? 1 or 2 meals a day? Thank you so much.
Cindy's Answer:
I feed a couple different commercially prepared raw diets since I only have a few dogs right now. It's easy, thaw and feed. I use Steve's Real Food, Vital Essentials and Northwest Naturals.
If you search on the different brands of raw food, most of them have store locators based on your zip code.
I feed adults twice a day, puppies 3 times.

Hi Cindy- we are getting our Malinois around 3/11. She will be on some kind of kibble. How soon could I switch to raw? When you travel, as I plan on doing & planning on taking her with, do you manage to take raw with or switch to freeze dried or good kibble. Thank you
Cindy's Answer:
How soon you switch depends on the puppy, some don't eat that well when first leaving the litter and others don't seem to miss a beat, appetite wise. Some can switch easily and others need a more gradual switch to maintain good stools and body condition.
I'm always conservative when adding new proteins or treats, only using a little bit in addition to what the dog/pup is doing well on and waiting a few days to make sure there aren't any huge digestive upsets.
I feed raw and freeze dried when I travel, but everyone needs to do what works best for them and their dogs.
