My 9 week old Rottweiler puppy’s biting of hands and feet is getting more intense, how should I control this?
Full Question:
I have had my rotty male puppy for 1 week now. He is 9 weeks old. His puppy biting is getting more vigorous and when you try and calm him down he comes back even harder. To me he is showing a lot of prey drive but how do you think I should control this biting. Will most probably do Schutzhund with him. Over the years I have purchased dog tugs, etc from Leerburg which I still have. At night around 6 pm is when he gets out of hand. I redirect which works but then he gets fixated on bare hands and feet.Kind Regards

If you haven't watched Raising Your Puppy with Michael Ellis I would definitely recommend it. It's about 7 hours of info on how to raise a puppy without squishing their drive and ability to be a working partner. A lot of puppies do the behavior you mention in the evening, it's like a toddler that is overly tired and wound up. I usually put my pups in a crate or expen when they get like this. Trying to calm them down is usually NOT successful, you simply have to scoop them up and put them somewhere that prevents them from continuing. Puppy raising is mostly about preventing them from practicing the wrong thing. :)
Management of puppies is the most important and useful part of raising them so we can live with them while they are learning about the world. I think the video will help you a lot.
