Will I confuse my dog if I teach her multiple tricks in the same time frame?
Full Question:
Hey! I am new to Leerburg and loving all the training resources, I am slightly addicted to following along and training. I am wondering how many new things it's okay to teach my girl at the same time in separate training sessions? She is a high drive working GSD and she loves to train as much as I do but I am wondering if I will confuse her if I teach her multiple tricks over the same time frame?Again thank you for all the resources you offer, I wish I could absorb it all at once, so excited!

Thanks for your message, I'm glad you are enjoying the content on Leerburg. :)
The answer to your question is: that depends!
Some dogs do best with mastering one skill before moving on to the next and others can learn multiple new things at the same time. It really is a factor of your dog's motivation and engagement with you and your skills and the most important thing, know when to stop a session. I like to stop before the dog starts to lose enthusiasm and is still pushing for more, at least in the learning stages of new skills.
Also if teaching multiple new behaviors in the same session, make sure they are very different from each other to avoid confusion. For example; maybe teach one stationary new skill and then one that is very different and involves movement. For my young dog, I might work on holding an item in his mouth for one exercise and then running to a target/touchpad in the same session as these behaviors are completely different.
I hope that makes sense!
