I want to use an ecollar to train my 7 month old dog, which course would be best?

Full Question:
Hi Cindy, I have a 7 month old male GSD puppy. He's very large, over 75 lbs. I struggled with leash pulling and reactivity to other dogs while on the leash. It started because my neighbors have two fence fighting dogs that love to bark @ my puppy whenever we are in the backyard. I'm now using a HS prong collar and it's been a game changer. He no longer pulls my arm off when we go on a walk. His training has been limited to a puppy class he took several months ago. It was really more to socialize him. He knows sit, sit/stay, come, down, leave it, etc., all the basics.

I bought a Dogtra 1900x Ecollar. It's their latest model and there is very little information anywhere about it. I want to take an Ecollar training course for recall.. Which course do you think would be the best to take? 'm a beginner with Ecollars. My goal is to train my pup to walk off leash using the Ecollar.

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
I would suggest Ed's ecollar course as well as the Leash Reactivity course we offer from Tyler Muto if you still have issues with reactivity. If the reactivity seems to be under control then Loose Leash Walking would be my other suggestion instead of Leash Reactivity. It covers ecollar use for walking.
User Response:
Thanks Cindy,
Even with the prong collar he is still reactive on the leash toward other dogs, sometimes he'll even bark @ them. He loves people so there is no problem there. I took him to Murdochs the other day and he was all over the place, pulling, etc. So I definitely need more help. So I think I should do Ecollar training and Leash Reactivity both as you suggested. Is there a lot of overlap in the two courses?
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Prong collars can often trigger reactive behavior so I would stop taking him out to environments you can't control right now. Based on this more recent message, I'd suggest you work through the Leash Reactivity material first and focus on that before worrying too much about using the ecollar. You could let him wear the ecollar (without turning it on) so he becomes used to wearing the collar before you start using it.

there is not much overlap between those two courses, as each one is focused on a different topic.
User Response:
Thanks Cindy for helping me get my priorities straight. I'll order the leash reactivity course to work on that before I start Ecollar training.
