Product Description
This 2-handled leash is great for many reasons. It is basically our 6 ft leather leash with an extra loop handle placed closer to the dog. We love this leash for walking our dogs. When a stranger, other animal, or any distraction approaches you and your dog while walking simply reach down to the lower handle and pull your dog close. When the distraction has passed you can release the second loop and go back to walking your dog as usual.
Our dog leashes are made from soft latigo leather. You will never find a leash of this quality in any pet store or dog food warehouse.
The snaps on our leather dog leashes and collars are made from the highest quality solid stainless steel hardware. These snaps are sewn and then pop riveted to insure the highest security. This is very important in Schutzhund and police protection training where a broken leash can cause disaster.
MADE IN THE USA
Leerburg leather products are works of art.
The cow hides used to make all of Leerburg's leather are hand selected for Leerburg before tanning. We need and use the thickest hides available. Our hides go through over 85 steps in a tanning process that takes over a month. There are many types of Latigo leather that are made in Mexico, India, or Pakistan, but none can compare to the quality of Leerburg’s Latigo leather.
Once tanned, our Leerburg Leather is delivered to the Amish family that crafts our leather products right here in Wisconsin. Our 4 Amish craftsmen have been making Leerburg leather products since 1990.
These 5 Amish craftsmen hand cut, sew, pop-rivet, and tailor all of our leather products. We have yet to come across another leather product that measures up to our products' quality.
In 2015, we switched from using brass or bronze hardware to stainless steel. Stainless Steel is stronger and lasts a lifetime. You can go and find a cheaper leather product somewhere else, but the quality will not measure up to our products.
100% of Leerburg leather products are made in Wisconsin. We don't use leather from India, Pakistan, or Mexico.

Write a ReviewIt is extremely durable. I just purchased a second one, after 15 years and 2 dogs. The brass clip wore down but the leash itself was still good. (Having the old one repaired!).
By having this lead, l have prevented injury to my dog, on a walk one day, passed another person walking their dog, I let the dogs greet each other, they decided they did not like each other, tempers flared between them, I was able to pull my dog up in the air into my arms and end the confrontation right away.
I understand that that would not be possible with every dog, given my dog is only 30lbs and I use a harness, without this lead, not sure how it would have ended.
Anyway, get this lead! High quality leather and zero issues with purchasing this from Leerburg.
The leash is 1/32" thicker than any of my other leashes and was very stiff when it arrived. I applied leather conditioner and after two weeks and daily use it is much more pliable. The edges are squared off and you will feel them kind of "dig" into your hand when you hold the leash. It would be nice if somehow they could be finished so the edge was a bit more rounded.
This leash is of very good quality! Even right out of the box it is pliable and fairly soft, and the lower loop is just the right distance from the snap. I lead my dog on a front-ring no pull harness, so some double loops are too short and end up pulling upward on the harness, making my dog uncomfortable. This one is great.
The only thing that would improve this lead would be a rolled leather top loop instead of the thick flat leather, making it more comfortable to hold on longer walks. However, I won't let that personal preference diminish my review because the quality is still top notch.
Also, my order was processed quite promptly! Thanks, Leerburg.
I bought this leash because I walk two large huskies (80 and 90 lbs) and the male pulls like a freight train. I have to wear bicycle gloves to help with bone bruises on my palms. I often have to grab the leash down low to control him, and without a loop, this is tough on the bottom hand over time, so both hands take a beating. I've always let him pull because when we rescued him he was in very bad shape - he'd been half starved to death. So, I let him pull to start building his body back up. 10,000 miles and 6 years later, he's gained 40 lbs of muscle and has an uncanny ability to maintain tension on the leash even when turning sharply. Why do I still put up with this? I've lost 40 lbs and gotten stronger. At 60, I need all the exercise I can get. I consider my dogs my personal trainers. No matter how you feel, they are ready to go like it's Christmas morning.
I mention all this because I have a suggestion for a small improvement for folks whose dogs walk them. The top loop should be about 2" longer. This will enable the leather to lie flat against the palm when wearing it around the back of the hand. As it is, the leather has to twist sideways before clearing the palm. Regardless, it is much easier on the hand than my old canvass leash - I just think it could be even better.
Oh... and it's hand made by the Amish, does it get any better than that!?
The value of this leash is so well worth it's price, because you won't need another one, unless you get another dog!
I love it so much I am going to give it as a gift to my friend who is getting a puppy.
Don't waste your money on any other brand, this is the one to buy.
The leather is so supple and the grip is great in your hand. For any large breed dog, I highly recommend the two handled leash, for control.
This product is elegant, durable, and unbelievably supple once it breaks in. We use the 2 handled 6 ft x 3/4 in leash every day for the past year plus on our now 1.5 year old 100 lb Rhodesian Ridgeback. It survived his teenage years of chewing and trying to play tug. While there are some scratches to it, it is not noticeable. In having a large dominant male dog, leash control is important. The double handle is great when in public spaces and I want him super close to me (no everyone pays attention to what their dog is doing in dog friendly spaces). We used the puppy leash till he was about 6 months, and then shifted to the 1/2 inch. I have not seen any wear on the rivets, stitching, or snap. VERY pleased with this product. Great quality + value for the price. I have not seen any leash that compares to it.
I just wanted to write you and comment that you really do have THE BEST leashes. I purchased a leather drag leash and two handled leather leash, and they are incredibly soft and equally strong. I cannot believe how superior they are to other leather leashes I have purchased. Thank you for providing such outstanding products!!
