I have a 2 yr old lab/boxer mix male. He's been fixed for over a year and he still hasn't calmed down. When someone pulls into the yard he starts barking and jumping on that persons vehicle. I have tried varies things to stop this and nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any suggestions.
How much obedience training have you done? What type?
The only behaviour nuetering/spaying effects is mating and the behaviours associated with it. If you have a high energy dog before spay/nueter you'll have one after.
my lab/boxer mix wasn't a high energy dog before he was fixed. After he got fixed is when he has gotten all of this energy. Before he would lay around and whine. He doesn't have a whole lot of training. There are very few classes around where I live at.
Well the first order of business is to get the basic obedience done. Ed's got some great videos for that. I'd call around to the SPCA and see what's availible. Its well worth the effort. You have to get the fundementals first then work on behavior issues. Also might want to find an exercise/activty for him. a tired puppy is a happy puppy
Lemme think.. lab.. Boxer.. 2yrs? Still a baby.
I just said this in another thread, but a dog will do only what you allow it to do. For example, if the dog was on a leash then he wouldn't be jumping up at people's cars.. Something else I just said in another thread I feel applies here also.. OB! Teach the dog to sit, a RELIABLE sit, not a half hearted one. When someone pulls up in the driveway, tell the dog to sit. MAKE the dog stay in the sit, keep the leash ON.
NOTHING is more annoying than a dog with no manners, for the owner AND other people who have to be around the dog.
