...in love. No, not really
Actually, I mean literally. I've been working Siris with the ball on a string, and while it took him a while to figure it out, once his brain latched onto "ball = prey!" he's been having a blast. So much of one that he'll go to make a tight turn to grab the ball when I jerk it away that he goes tumbling.
So question: do I need to ease up? Or does Siris just need to get over the clumsiness that goes with being 4 mths old? I'm pretty much going side to side like it shows on the DVD, and he's usually okay, but there are times where his body turns faster than his feet, or the one time--I haven't a clue what happened, but he literally went into a somersault (I stopped the training session, made sure he was okay, and put him up). I'm mostly worried about a bad move injuring his back legs.
Any advice? Anyone?

i don't know about a 4-mo old pup, but my 8-yr old Dobe, who has lightning quick reactions, still can get going SO FAST when playing "chase me 'til i catch you", that he'll literally trip his own self, fall (just for a FRACTION of a second), still have time to look embarassed before he's gone at 300 MPH again.
i think if it was me, i'd slow it down a little if he's really tumbling. probably take some finessing on your part: you don't want him to think the prey's waiting for him (that'll stop the prey drive), but you don't want to get him going so hard he hurts himself.
finesse it...

Just a wild guess, but are you forgetting to move your feet? If you are moving, then there is less chance of the super sudden direction change. Sounds like a good puppy. Just hope he doesn't do like my mal and just bite you instead.

Hi guys.
Just a wild guess, but are you forgetting to move your feet? If you are moving, then there is less chance of the super sudden direction change.
Jeff, I'm moving--sometimes I think I'm moving too much But now you mention it, he does tend to wind up tripping himself up more often when I flip the ball away from him but don't move my feet at the same time. Hmm...
you don't want him to think the prey's waiting for him (that'll stop the prey drive), but you don't want to get him going so hard he hurts himself.
finesse it...
*lol* Ie, practice makes perfect(or at least, semi-perfect)? Okay, I'll see about "finessing it"--I like that!
Sounds like a good puppy.
Thanks Jeff.
Just hope he doesn't do like my mal and just bite you instead.
Mmm...he got my leg instead of the ball once. Is that a portent of things to come? ^_^

Sorry, but in my version of "high drive" you are gonna get it. I can't say that I would want a dog with less drive than that. Plus, you are teasing him, so I am not against the dog that will bite you for doing so. Any less, and maybe they won't live in my house.........they can go to a Schutzhund home
