I have been feeding my dog Innova for a number of years. He seems to gulp and swallow rather than chew his food. As a result he has some tartar build-up on his teeth. We have tried brushing etc. Is there a different high quality dry feed with large pieces that would encourage more chewing?
Can't help you with the dog food question, but my dog had MAJOR tarter buildup when I got him. After about 3 days feeding raw (started with whole chickens and chicken parts) you wouldn't believe the difference. I'm not saying you have to totally switch over, but you might try it for a few days. I definitely don't recommend feeding kibble and raw in the same meals, or even on the same day due to the different digestive requirements.
Raw bones are very good for this. Try feeding raw chicken carcass. You could by a whole chicken and fillet what you want then feed the dog the remains, my dog loves this.
I feed a lot of raw bones to my dog and his teeth are as white and clean as they can be. I give mainly raw ribs and the action of picking between the bones and chewing the bones to nothing seems to be very good for his teeth.
An alternative is the dried chew stick types or dried pigs ears, which should be natural as they other stuff may cause digestive problems.
