Ok I have read a lot of threads, but could not find exact answer:
Now I know what food, prey, defense, drives are.. But how can you describe civil drive?
Is it: I have 5 mos old puppy and he will bite already on an arm without any protection. Is this considered civil drive? PLease educate me.. because I confused myself. And maybe I am completely out of the loop here. we do not do bite work yet, only prey games. But he is seriuos, when he gets a chance to bite somebody, even when game.. Sometimes he gets over the line with some people
Thanks..
PS and how do you test civil drive.. any suggestions?

Civil drive is wanting to bite on anything, usually this kind of dogs are very dominant and only have one boss and has a lack of play/prey drive.
I know dogs who seriously injured people on the age of 6-8 mo.Not a nip, but serious, scar making bites.

Sounds a bit like mine...does not even particularly like to play, will only play with me, and only has prey drive for live animals...acts like everyone other than me is invisible. Dominance out the wazoo. So, I anxiously await definitions. I hate to define drives all the time; dogs go back and forth probably faster than we can label, and it seems like if you asked 5 people what "civil" means to them, you'll get 4-5 different answers.

More than that. I did a web search and came up with everything from "it's not a drive; it's a temperament" to "bites without sleeve" to "hostile toward people."
I back off. The topic is way over my head.
