A week ago I said I had something funny to tell the next day. Well a week later here it is LOL. Sorry for the suspense!
I have a couple people I have told I was selling my male shepherd (litter mate to my bitch I speak of) because of time issues and not being able to spend the time needed with him at this point. One of them called and said they were sending over someone a certain Reverend to look at him for a watch dog. The reverend calls me up and I tell him I was asking $300.00 firm for this male as his temperment is great and pedigree is wonderful. We chat for a while and make arrangments for him to come the next day. He says will you take $250.00 and I tell him just come over and look at him and then make his decision after seeing him. During the first conv. he offered $250 and the second still without seeing him offered $200 LOL I said why would you think I would take $200 after turning down your $250 offer and he says well I had something come up and had to spend some of the money. This Rev. shows up with a police officer and begins to critique my male saying he looks good but needs some socializing. I tell him, I told you that on the phone. We go inside and look at the papers and pedigree and this policeman starts bragging on Gary Hanrahan (of which I do hold in high regard) and telling what high standards he has on select breedings and stud services being to approved females only and on and on. To show what working lines go for and since Gary does not have prices on his website I go to the Leerburg site to show what puppy prices are. This officer immediatly starts to cut down Leerburg saying they have terrible dogs and he seen one that pissed itself during training and the like. I told him well one dog does not a bad kennel make and it was probably handler error since puppyhood and not the genetics and temperment of the dog. He says he has heard of all kinds of people saying the same things. I get defensive telling him that Ed has been suppying police departments with dogs since the 70's and was held in high regard by all and he did not know what he was talking about. I also said that Gary did not run a kennel per say but had an occasional litter and provided stud service of his and his clients dogs but was in the business as a handler mainly and was in it pretty much strictly for the money and did not breed survey the bitches he allowed his males and clients males to mate with unless you count the numbers on the check as the survey. I'm kinda mad at this point and did not mean in any way to make Gary look bad I just wanted the Rev to know this guy was talking out his a$$. This Rev. proceeds to offer me $200 for my male and I told him thanks but no thanks and if he wanted some AKC reg. dog for $200 I would help him save the long drive and go in and get the paper and phone so he could call some of the ads in there so he could pick up some American Shepherd on his way home LOL. I said have a safe trip home he hung his head wanting to save face but knowing he made a mistake in not taking him because I did finally tell him I would take $250 if he would allow me a stud service from him in the future. I did not care for a stud service as this male was my bitches brother but used that as a reason to take less without devalueing the dog. All I wanted was the dog to have a good home and someone to spend time with him and the like. He would not come up from the $200 I said have a safe trip home and he hung his head and left. Later I got to thinking well since this male was just eating food and not getting time spent with him and that I had not sent in his puppy papers so I had a $35 late charge to pay I would go ahead and take $200 just for the dogs sake. I call up this Rev. hoping to catch him before he got to far and you know what he said? He said well I spent some of the money on buying supplies to build a dog house so he only had $150.00 now LMAO a Rev lying his a$$ off. I said why are you lying to me when all I have been is honest with you. You know what he had the balls to says. He tried to be! He tried to be honest with me!! TRIED TO BE!!! I stopped him and said wait a minute before you go any farther and have anything else to save face over and if you want the dog don't go any further. He said let me see if I can get the money and I'll call you back, I'll call you right back. He never called back. I used to be a minister myself and am still a believer and lover of my Bro. Jesus Christ but had lost faith in the church and in people of churches I had told him earlier and he said he would talk to me about that. I was wondering if lying to me was his way of building my trust back in the church and the ministry LOL? Then it hit me. This cop was saying and giving great praise to Gary's dogs of which mine were from (Sarec vom Haus Antverpa and Demy von der Dithmarscher Schweiz both on the world team before) and knocking Ed's dogs of which mine were not. How did that make since? I later left a voice mail making sure I would get his voice mail and not him asking him what part of this whole business made any since in his mind and how his friend the officer was talking out both sides of his a$$ and added in asking if that was his way of building my faith back in the church by lying to me. I then proceded to tell him that there was NO price he could buy the dog for now and that I would hope a minister would learn from his mistakes. I told him also that if he called me admiting his lies and appologized that I would still sell him the dog and for the price I said I would because I honor my word. Can yall believe that? Is that funny or what?

I'm glad you didn't sell him the dog. With the lying he was doing, who knows what his real motives and plans for your dog were. $300 is a very reasonable price and I wouldn't come down at all unless it's for someone you know and trust completely. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I know what you mean. I had only told a couple of my friends, both being working GSD lovers, of my intent to sell him. I thought I would be talking to someone with integrity. That's what I get for assuming I guess. I did want to honor my word. The officer that was with him was saying Gary's dogs were wonderful so why would he not tell him to take him? It just lets you know that he was lying too or very ignorant that he would down Ed's dogs and build up my lines (out of Gary's lines) and not buy one. LOL
