Made the decision to go raw with puppy. Will be asking advise from the rest of you and suport. He is a 9.5 weak old
malinois and he seemed to enjoy it. He chewed well and was looking for more. I only gave him the back and thigh of a cornish game hen. I think I could have given more but couldn't find my wifes scale (as I have no need for one LOL) and did not want to over do it. Still feeding three times a day for a little longer. Still trying to figure out the picture thing as what we uploaded to photobucket only came up half pictures and other problems. need to find a kid to help me.Wish us luck and will be back

Mitch,
PhotoBucket did that to me as well and I think it was because I did other things on the computer while it was uploading. Now when I upload I go and get a cup of coffee of something and when I get back the pics are uploaded and normal.
Congrats on going RAW...

has now eaten three meals, 6 ounces of cornish game hen pieces. He seems to enjoy it but he loved kibble as well. He had his first bowel movement after breakast and was fairly firm and very little some of it a little dark. Maybe a little was stilll from kibble but does this sound ok? Just cautious as first time raw.

6oz of food in a day? Are you feeding kibble as well? Seems kind of little, specially for a puppy. I have an 8 week old Beagle who weights aprox. 9 lbs and I'm feeding him 12 oz per day. He started raw a week ago, and I've only fed him Cornish Game Hens so far. Today I gave him a piece of chicken liver and a chicken heart for the first time. He didn't want to eat neither at first, but as soon as he finished his hen and saw me doing dishes, and realized that was it, he ate both! lol. I buy these . They weight 24 oz, so I feed him half a hen each day divided in three meals.
My dogs stools have all been on the soft side, including a bit of diarrhea a couple of days ago. He's been going an average of two times per day.
I've been feeding him 12 oz per day and thought my dog was pooping little compared to the amount of food he's been eating, so your dogs amount of poop should be half as much as mine, which should be very little. Try feeding 8-10% of your dogs weight. I posted a pic of my dogs stool a couple of days ago, if you're interested Do a search.
Today I bought some fish to see if my dog likes it. I will be mixing it up this week, but not too much. Try feeding only chicken for a week. Good luck, seems you're on the right track.

Richard, when my female weighed 77 lbs, she was getting 24 oz a day. She's pregnant now so It's a bit different but I don't see how your pup can eat that much? Yours is 9lb and gets half of my female used to get a day? WOW .....
He is so flippin' cute(your pup)But hey if he looks good on that much RMB maybe he needs that much...

Hi Angelique.
Aren't puppies supposed to eat 10% of their weight compared to 2-3% for adults? I'll try to find the link Thanks for the compliments. He's getting more difficult every day, though lol.

Oh, and if I fed my dog 3% of his weight he would definitely think I'm a bad owner. Even with the 10%, he finishes every meal wanting more and still with energy to spare afterwards.

ok. In Cindy E.R's ebook she says "Puppies eat anywhere from 5-10% of their body weight daily while they are growing". 10% of 9 lbs is 14.4 oz, so I'm feeding a little less.

WoW ,I haven't had the chance to feed a puppy Raw yet, I'm excited to. when I started Raw mine were not little puppies but young adults.I guess you are on the right track , I can't believe puppies eat that much, I read that and knew that but never made the calculation.
Good luck

If you don't mind being an at-home butcher, you can really save yourself some money buying whole chickens...also, check the section at your grocer's that has the meats that are almost out of their expiration date...you can get really good deals on those, too.
I bought 30 10lbs bags of chicken quarters for .39 a lbs...
you can also buy mackeral in cans for about the same as cheap tunafish..just watch the salt on the labels...some have more than others
chicken livers are great, too since they're small and just the right size for your pup...I can get a lbs of chicken livers for less than two dollars and give her one or two a day with her other food and it'll last 5-6 days or buy a pound of beef liver cut in thin strips and do the same thing
I also feed a small amount of veggies, eggs, and fruit put thru my blender...I also mix in Omega 3 and organic kelp...I've dialed back the last couple of weeks how much I give her except for the eggs which I've increased a little...I used to give a couple of cups...now I water it down and give her about half of that
hope any of that helps...
oh yeah, I feed in her crate or outside...never in the kitchen or other house areas...the reason for this is 1) I keep her from dragging her food all over the place by feeding in the crate 2)or outside, there's no need for clean-up if she slings stuff everywhere...I also would feed her veggies/fruits first if you decide to do that because if you give her everything at once, she'll probably go for the meat and try and dodge the other--just like a kid
all the best with your new puppy!!!
