Okay, I'm posting this link of a site I came across in my raw research:
http://www.rawdogranch.com/index.html
Although nothing turned up on a quick Leerburg search on it, it's highly possible that someone has already discovered this site and mentioned it here, and if so...apologies! It's possible that the site owner is even a member here! But if it gets your stamp of approval then it's worth repeating, I think. It answers a lot of questions that people repeatedly ask here about raw diets.
I wonder if the experts could cruise on over and check it out? I would like to get opinions--I really thought it was fantastic. TONS of info on the raw diet. Pictures, clearly written and broken down...and there's even an Excel Spreadsheet that you can download to help you figure out how to feed your dog (and buy) the proper amounts of various meat sources. My favorite thing about it was that compared to other sites/books I've seen, it wasn't nearly as confusing.
Anyway, if no one finds any obvious mistakes...I think this is a great resource for us raw newbs, as a supplement reference to Leerburg.
What say you?

This is another site, besides Leerburg, I relied heavily on when I first started raw a couple of months ago. I'm in full agreement.

cool to see a rabbit field dressed in pictures...I used to hunt all the time when I was younger and field dressed all kinds of game exactly the same way.
And, not that it's a suprise, all the dogs we used to hunt with were right there waiting for us to gut the deer, hogs, squirels, rabbits, etc...smart pooches!
None of those dogs ever got shots/vaccines and most of them lived long lives and were extremely healthy dogs.
I wonder what the cost is in raising rabbits/chickens as opposed to just buying the meat already processed?

I would guess raising them is cheaper. The cost to me would be having to actually do the killing, which I admit is my hypocritical hang-up! I'm working on it, though.

I know someone that is raising rabbits as he likes to eat organic meat and found raising them himself was cheaper than buying organically raised chicken.
He has now got to the point where he has enough not just for himself, but also to sell, but he was pricey IMHO.
Now from being a reluctant rabbit owner, I can tell you that the actual cost of raising one or two is cheap. A bale of hay ($4) for two rabbits went over (9) months. Rabbit Food in bulk is cheap too. A large bag at about $9 lasts for about 6 months or more. We have one as a pet, so he gets craisin, carrots, et cetera. If I started raising them to feed our pup, I think that my son would absolutely flip, but I am certain other than the cages for them, that could be build instead of bought, that raising them would be ALOT cheaper than buying.
If anyone wants any more info about rabbits ... let me know!

One of my very-best-favorite sites. Very few questions are left unanswered.
As you think, so shall you be. |

Great site indeed!!
I love how the author put everything together and explains things step by step.
Thanks for posting this Amber.
I try to switch as many dog owners to raw as I can around here (they always ask me what I feed my dogs, which is how it starts lol) and that site would be a very useful resource for them.
Maybe I'll just go around putting up links to these raw feeding websites all around the local dog park to get people's attention
I could introduce it with something like "WORRIED THAT YOUR BELOVED PET WILL GET SICK AND DIE FROM ALL THE TAINTED COMMERCIAL DOG FOODS? VISIT THESE SITES TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU SHOULD BE FEEDING YOUR DOG!"
The one thing that boggles the mind somewhat (on that website) is all the effort they go through to skin, gut and chop up the rabbits that they feed to the dogs. Why mess around with fresh prey? Not only are they creating so much unnecessary work for themselves, but they're removing very nutritious parts of fresh rabbit (skin, blood, stomach, guts) that many raw feeders would be thrilled to get their hands on!
Great housing tips for raising rabbits though; I'm going to try implementing a few of those. It should definitely cut down on clean up time!!
