I have an 8 year old GSD. Starting on Thursday, and then happening again on Saturday and again this morning, he has dry heaves. He gets fed twice a day and has never gotten sick after eating. It is just in the mornings. He typically only heaves one or twice but you can hear his stomach gurggaling for a few hours and then he is fine. He is fed Pinnacle dry kibble for the last 3 months and before that it was Solid Gold Wolf King. He does have a vet appointment for tonight, but I was wondering if anyone else had ever experienced anything like this. Also, his bathroom habits are normal as is his eating/drinking.

IMO, blood panels are extremely important to identify any lurking issues. And FYI, my substitute vet (my vet was out) did not recommend a blood panel, did not believe it was necessary, so I pushed it, and he "complied". Thankfully I did push, because test revealved kidney failure. My dog did have some "urky gurky" clear liquidy vomitus early on in the disease.

I would get him to the vet ASAP. Some dogs who do this in the morning have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or IBS, but it's also one of the symptoms of concussion and of bloat, among other emergency conditions. JMO.
I did ask the vet when I made the appointment about specifically about bloat, but based on the information I gave them regarding Killian's eating and other behaviors, they did not think it would be a problem to wait until tonight. That being said, I am going as soon as I can get him there.

Gotcha.
