Yesterday a.m. I noticed a lemon sized lump under my 1 year old boerboel's jaw. I took him to the vet and they took a needle aspirate sample to send out for cytology. The vet said it looked like saliva rather than lymph node fluid. I was basicly instructed just to leave it alone and wait for the cytology results, which will be in the middle of next week.
Have any of you experienced this with your dogs? If so what was the results?

I've read some about them...I think there are different types; a salivary mucocele is a collection of saliva that has leaked from a damaged salivary gland or salivary duct, and has accumulated in the tissues. I think that would be a movable, painless swelling. (And there are three or four types of those, too.)
The vet saying that it looked like saliva rather than infiltration by fat cells or lymph fluid would be a good thing, I believe. I've read that drainage and/or excising (depending on the type) of a salivary mucocele is generally successful.
I'm not a health professional, and I didn't look this up recently. I'll find some material for you if you want.
