I would have to say helper error, just from watching him pull his arm a bit upwards and away just as the dog was about to hit.....I may be wrong.....
I don't think it was on purpose, the helper may have thought the dog was going to hit and grip and moved to allow the follow through so as not to jam the dogs neck and he moved too early.......
That dog was moving fast and looked like he was going to hit like a truck......

I'm sure it wasn't. I have absolutely nil experience with helper work, much less walking a high perf dog like that on a leash.
I didn't want anyone to think I was pointing fingers.
Scary as hell though. I wonder if the owners heart skipped a beat or two.....didn't look like the mal's did. Kinda' looked like it freaked the helper out for a sec.
some malinois are also known for coming so hard and fast that they "forget to grip", or dont grip hard enough to handle the the momentum that they have built up in the courage test! nice job by the helper to go directly towards the dog and draw another attack and preventing the dog from failing!

And you are correct.....great job by the helper to step up and engage the dog again.....
