Can any vet do this or do I need to find a specialist? I think I read somewhere to get two copies done. One to send in to OFA and one for myself to give to the breeder.
Approximately what am I looking at costs for the X-ray and OFA? Never did this before either.

Well the easiest answer is to call up a local vet and ask that question, i am sure someone here can give you a round-about price but i am sure it will change from vet to vet.
Pretty much any vet with an xray machine can take OFA xrays but as this article shows: http://leerburg.com/hipart.htm It behooves you to check around and see who is good in your area. I go to one vet just for her OFA and Pennhip experience and have a regular vet for everything else.
Costs are area dependant. A few weeks ago (in Montana) I paid around 250.00 to have both hips and elbows xrayed for OFA and than there is a 35.00 fee to OFA on top of that. You only need one copy that you can pay an additional 5.00 for OFA to mail back to your vet. However my vet just scans them and emails them to me and they are fine to pass around as you can see here:

When i had My GS Pup X-Rayed, It was his Shoulders and Both front Legs,
Over here in Belgium it cost me 545 USA Dollars for it to be done, this included a few pills to help with the inflamation but it was expensive, but i was thankful his Joints were okay,
When he is 12 to 14 months Old i will have his Hips Checked, plus his Front legs again, Hopefully by then this Pano on his front leg will be hopefully be gone away
I did one of my dog's hips a few months ago. I called a couple of different vets that I use. One wanted $345, one was around $450 and the one I used was $285 including the OFA fees..that is for hips and elbows. It's really best to call the vet and ask, since prices can vary so much - they usually have no problem giving you a quote.
