This is a purely hypothetical question at this point.
When I get my next dog I shall be working full time. If it were to be a puppy at what age do you think is it fair to leave a young dog home alone? Considering both being able to hold for loo and the stress of being alone?
I have one GSD who has been out of her crate during the night at 6 months old...and hasn't been in her crate at all since about 10 months. My other GSD, Kira, will probably never be trustworthy out of her crate when no one is home. She's too devious!
I assume you mean alone roaming the house, since the question wouldn't make much sense if the dog is crated.
I started working about a month ago, and I leave my dog crated from 8:30-12:00. I go home at lunch time, take him out somewhere where he can run around and get tired (about 30 minutes), feed him and leave him crated from 1:30-4:00.
Recently, I wanted to give him a break and see how he would behave if I left him in the living room. So I left him alone after lunch. I came back and there wasn't much damage, but he scratched a door trying to enter my room.
He's 10 months old now. I'll give him another break when he turns 1 year old.
