Apollo is on Euk large breed puppy, and I swear its causing him to SMELL! Cuz his breath would knock ya over after he eats. So once he is 8 months, I plan on switching to a better kibble.
So if you have to pick one of the below foods.. which would it be? And would it be ok for an 8 month old GSD and a 6 year old Lab? Or is there too much of an age difference?
California Natural,
Canidae,
Eagle Pack,
Flint River Ranch,
Royal Canin,
Timberwolf Organics,
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul
thanks,
Maizie
~*~Thunder, you weren't the best dog. You were the greatest!~*~
I also fed my dogs eukanuba at the very beginning. And as you stated, my dogs also smelled. After considerable research, I chose Innova. My dogs tired quickly of the taste, and one dog developed hotspots, which I suspect was caused by Innova. I then switch to my second choice, which was Chicken Soup. After the switch, the hotspots cleared. After several months on Chicken Soup, the dogs are still enthusiastic about meal time. A side benefit is that Chicken Soup is cheaper than Innova with similiar ingredients. The smell is gone and all dogs are doing great.
As for your other question, I believe it will be ok for both of your dogs.
You keep mentioning waiting for 8 months... is there a reason why? is that the magic age to get rid of dog breath?
He is old enough now to be on an adult food.
Teething should have nothing to do with the stink coming from his mouth.
I have fed Chicken soup, and feed a small amount of it daily to my pups from 6 weeks on so they are used to kibble should their owners choose to feed that. They get raw as soon as they are able to mush it down
This question has been asked a million times here, and it is just like asking what kind of underwear do you prefer and why. You will always get a different answer. Try one, see how your dogs do on it and judge for yourself. No matter how good a food is supposed to be, it won't work for every dog.
It's so damn confusing on what to feed your dogs. health requirements, time, budget constraints etc. You look on the side of the bag and look at the ingrediants and see all the grain packed into it. When's the last time you seen a herd of dogs grazing in a corn field? so we take the advice of the professional dog breeders/sportsmen/trainers and come up with a compromise we can live with. sometimes I think we'd be better off feeding our dogs fresh road kill.
Maizie, you probably know this already, but just in case you don't (since we're all here to help and learn from one another) make sure to hold back enough of the old kibble to mix in with the new one when you introduce it to their diet. If you don't make this a gradual transition you'll be cleaning up the yard with a spatula, if you know what I mean, lol.
